Saving a Quilt {Bruce Springsteen Quilt Remade}

This quilt came to me in shambles.  Tattered and torn.  An owner who loved his original quilt so much that he went on Ebay and painstakingly re-purchased each tee.

He had teenage sons.  Enough said.

The glue in stabilizers will eventually start to deteriorate the tees {I don’t know this scientifically, I just know that every time someone brings me a quilt to save, it is the stabilizer that is the problem ~ there isn’t a large tee quilt maker that uses it}.

Lots of tees with notes pinned on.  Hours of separating the backing from the quilt and removing the shredded tees.

 Emailing pics back and forth the the client in New York making sure it was right.  Once or twice having to put quarters into the naughty jar.

 But then, it was done.  I hope it is loved as much as the original.

Love,

Bev

    This is AMAZING! YOU are amazing! WOWZA!

  2. I love it Bev. You did a great job saving this quilt. I am thrilled.

    Now, on to the next – for those who care, all of the t-shirts in this quilt were originally purchased by me at concerts from 1980 through 1995. All of the torn ones were replaced on eBay. I’m now talking to Bev about making its mate, with t-shirts I collected from 1999-2012.

    Wow Bev the miracle worker. That is awesome.

  4. Maureen Nolan laws would stop you? says:

    Wow, you could make alot of $$ mass marketing, but I guess the copyright laws would stop you…Just thinking out loud! Love it!

  5. No stabilizers used? Just t-shirt, batting and backing?

  6. I’ve not found any t-shirt quilt maker that didn’t use a stabilizer. So you don’t use anything other than the t-shirt, batting and a backing? I made a pillow out of a t-shirt for my son years ago and didn’t use a stabilizer and it is now in shreds – was thinking maybe I should have used something with it. Thoughts or ideas? Thanks.

  7. I bought a Groupon for a stadium sized T shirt quilt for my daughter’s sorority
    T shirts. This would be an heirloom for her. I am under the impression after reading everything here that you do not use stabilizer or batting. The T shirt material will stretch out without stabilizer. This might be OK if it were hung on the wall or never touched/used. My daughter would like to gently use this quilt. Since I cannot get anyone on the phone to even ask questions about this, I feel like I am going to have to “eat” this Groupon coupon to assure that I won’t ruin these irreplaceable T shirts. If I am in error, please advise.
