Patchwork Tee Quilt

Patchwork tee Quilt by Mominizer

This is easily the most funky, fun and fresh quilt I have ever made.  To say that I loved every second of this quilt would be an understatement.  Knowing how blessed we have been with the growth of our little company makes it hard for me to complain, but the thing I miss the most is the freedom to tinker with quilts and fabric all day long.  So when I get an opportunity like this, it literally recharges my batteries.

This quilt came to us as a box of roughly 84 – 6” squares that the owner had been saving for 20 years.  She had cut out directly on the graphic areas of the tees that she loved.  I cleaned the squares up and started playing.

I laid them all out and then left them.  Walked by and moved one or two.  Jaime would walk by and move one or two.  Finally after a few hours I knew I was happy.  I sewed the top together just like a patchwork quilt ~ rows and rows of a patchwork quilt.

I had contacted the buyer and told her I had seen a tutorial post and wanted to finish her quilt the same way.  So I used one of our great bamboo bowls off the display shelf to round my edges.

My hands look freakishly large in these pictures and yes, I know how bad my nails look.  You will breathe a sigh of relief to know that all the girls got mani/pedi’s for Princess Fiona’s birthday.

We backed the quilt is white jersey (tee fabric) and serged the edges.  This was my first serging project and I am hooked!

We will be adding this to the offerings on the new site and I cannot wait…okay, one more because I can!

Bev! I am cracking up. I was literally compiling tees from Florida State (and then some) when I saw the “serging project” quilt. I have some of the same tee shirts and beg you to make me a quilt of the same design. I particularly like where one tee shirt is used multiple places. How do I do this with you? Should I cut my own squares or send you whole tees? It’s brilliant! Cheers for sharing.

  3. Hi Bev
I have been saving tees to do a quilt for my daughter from birth thru 8th grade. She’s just finishing ip 7th grade this year. Can you make this so it can be added on to? Also, wondering if you can make it with a heavier material on back. Maybe sweatshirt material? And do you have any suggestions to remove old tshirt smell from them before putting into a quilt

  4. Can you use both the front and the back of a T shirt on a quilt?

I am trying to order a quilt and upgrade my livingsocial voucher, however, it continues to tell me my voucher is not valid. I do not see another way to contact you since your contact page has no links on it. My voucher is good thru 5/7/13.

    thanks

    Hi,
I have a GroupOn that is going to expire in 2 days. I’m still gathering tshirts. I saw somewhere on oyur website that you will still honor my GroupOn. I hope that is true. Is there a phone number to call or an email to ask questions?
    Thx!
    Meri-Beth

  8. I have one of the groupon deals for the patchwork quilt but I have a few questions. What size do the shirts need to be cut for the quilt? can the quilt be back to back of shirts instead of cotton on one side?
The quilt above looks great! I can’t wait to have my own!

    Bev!

    I LOVE THE EDGES!!!
I’m seriously about to give you the shirt off my back as part of the group of shirts I want to give you!

  10. Hi Bev!

I had purchased a living social deal for a quilt from you and I am ready to redeem it. I wanted to get the details, how many shirts? Do I need to cut squares? And I wasn’t sure about the value of my voucher, it cost me $75 back in June of 2012. Anxious to send my things your way, just let me know.

    Thanks in advance!
    Kendra

I ordered a t shirt quilt (12 shirts) using the coupon from Living Social, you were having trouble with your email, and we did the order by phone. I just got my Chase Freedom card and my Discover Card bill, and you charged me on both cards for the quilt. The Chase Freedom bill was corrected and is showing the right charge for $75.00, but I show a bill $163.60 for the quilt from Discover. I only sent you 12 t shirts, but I do not want to pay for this twice. Please correct this error asap.

If you have any questions, please call me at 847-465-8226 or lakinbrash@comcast.net.

    Thank you, Arlene Lakin-Brash

Could you please contact me or provide a contact number/email? I have a living social deal that I would like to use and I have some questions.

    Thanks

Diddo to Melissa-I have a Living Social & have been waiting. I thought you were getting back to us after your Christmas rush. Guess not, huh? My daughter gave me 12 tees from the fun places she has traveled. I hate to just send them w/o knowing what is the best way to do it–she’d kill me! Can you call-or email me? I need to know about backing, how much more it will be ($) and how much of the shirts you’d have to cut to get the quilt- I’m guessing picnic size? Thanks. It is sort of a surprise, but she’s waited & since I goofed, she won’t be surprised by the time she gets it now, but I do still want to do it. Can’t wait! We’re excited!!

    • My friend Debbie is helping me to get my shirts together. She left a message on your phone (just a little bit ago). Please call her as soon as you can. We want to send our shirts for the seven quilts to you today. If memory serves me correctly, we send the whole shirt, right? Debbie has some ????s too. Thanks so much!!

Hi – I also purchased 3 pillowcase Groupons through Plum District but they have expired. Would you honor the amount paid? I’d like to do a quilt for my daughter as she “graduates” from elementary school and have saved all of her t-shirts. Are you located in the Dallas area by chance? I’d be happy to bring them to you. If not, do I send them to you? Should I send the whole t-shirt or cut out the part I like? Also, noticed a previous question inquiring about possibly a thicker backing and was wondering the same. Thanks in advance!

  15. I just washed my shirts (again) to bring to you — and I cannot wait to see what you do with them. This post is an inspiration. I think we’re coming over Friday. :)
